Information: When times are lean, is art an indulgent luxury that should be trimmed?Is it enough to focus on our physical needs, or are we in need of other types of nourishment?Does art just feed egos? Or does it sets the table for us all to break bread together?
Nexus Art Cafe presents work from new and emerging artists, exploring these questions and taking fresh perspectives on our ideas of the necessary and the luxury.

When: 17-22nd May
Where: Kraak Gallery, Manchester
Information: Red Room comprises of eight Film and Media students from MMU, who have spent the past 8 months dedicating their time to the completion of eight unique photography dissertations. With the creative content varying from Anneliese Devine’s ‘psycho-geography’, to Erin Priddey’s exploration of murder sites in and around Manchester, the eclectic range of projects reflects the individuality and subjective nature of each student. With the intention of invoking a variety of conflicting emotions within the viewer, each project captures the creative essence of its creator, whilst delving within obscure and varying subject material; from Lucy Walls’ exploration of Surrealism, to Charli Greaves’ emotive depiction of derelict asylums. Other projects include: Jessica Gluba’s exploration of loss and grief , Sophie Harrison’s Voyeuristic depiction of the voyeur, Will Brown’s invasive study of the human form and Ami Stevens’ surreal twist upon conventional fashion photography.

Event title: Bolton Craft Fair

Where: The Church House, St Matthew’s Church, Church Street, Bolton
Information: A small event, with hugely talented Crafts people. We believe in quality over quantity and our 9 stalls showcase some amazing crafts people from the northwest. Stalls include cupcakes, needlecraft, greeting cards, soaps, jewellery and candles.
Enjoy a hot or cold beverage from the kitchen, all proceeds from the drinks goes straight towards the church roof appeal, helping preserve this local landmark. Show support for this local event and be proud to support independent Crafts people.

Event title: Access Approved Art: Moot Point
When: 26th May – 29th May 2012
Where: Cube Gallery, Manchester
Information: An exhibition of contemporary artwork by Access Approved Art: a collaborative group of Fine Artists from the University of Bolton. The first public exhibition of our collective artworks has been funded, managed and promoted by our own endeavours. It aims to initiate an exciting dialogue on an eclectic mix of contemporary themes. Traditional approaches of painting, drawing, sculpture and printmaking combine with other artistic media such as film, digital photography and installation.
The exhibition will be opened by Award winning Royal Shakespeare Company, film and TV actor Simon Trinder.

Event title: Westhoughton Vintage Fair
When: 27th May 12-5pm
Where: Mercury Hotel, Westhoughton
Information: Vibrant Vintage by Victoria Claire are hosting their 4th vintage and retro craft fair at the Mercury Hotel in Westhoughton, Bolton. The fair will have a Jubilee theme, and visitors can vote on their best dressed stall. Furthermore, a photographer will be on site taking photos of the fair and the most stylish visitors may have the chance to appear on the uber trendy website The Mancunianist.
This intimate fair will have a range of stalls selling vintage and retro clothing, accessories, homewear and retro craft jewellery and gifts and of course a yummy cupcake stall and homemade chocolate. Admission is just 50p. The fair will start at 12 and finish at 5.

Where: Camp and Furnace in Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle
Information: The Liverpool Art Fair is an exciting new open submission selling event over five days, designed to connect local artists with new art buyers on a large scale, break down barriers, and make affordable art accessible to all.
Showcasing a wide range of affordable original art by selected local artists, both established and up and coming, the fair will include a section of specially created work under £100, and a maximum price level of £1,000. The Liverpool Art Fair will provide a unique insight into the region’s creative talent; whether seasoned collector or first time art buyer, the fair will give everyone the opportunity to own their own piece of the Liverpool art world.

Event title: Prospection
When: 8th June – 30th June
Where: 32 Corporation Street, Bolton
Information: ‘Prospection’ is an exciting and provocative new exhibition to be held at Neo:Gallery 32, from Thursday 7th June. It will combine the work of three artists, Lynn Hall, Ruth Whyte and Janine Williamson who first met in 2006 while studying BA (Hons) Fine Art at the University of Bolton. The title, ‘Prospection’, refers to having the ability to look forward in time and consider the future, particularly apt in this current climate of uncertainty. Like most people, the three have all had their own personal challenges to deal with in the last few years and felt that exhibiting together would be a great way of sharing their experiences with each other and the public in an exhibition that promises to be both optimistic and poignant.

Event title: Dotty Delightful: Truly Scrumptious Handmade & Vintage Craft Fair
When: 23rd June 10am-5pm & 24th June 10am-4pm
Where: Winter Gardens, Blackpool
Information: The fair is going to be a two day spectacular of crafts, vintage, entertainment and music with craft workshops, a vintage tearoom and lots of handmade goodness.
There will be over a 100 stalls selling the northwest’s finest gifts, clothes, toys, accessories, food, art, cards, homewares and much …more. We are lucky enough to have two performances on the sunday from the very lovely burlesque performer Kitty Koko . Plus I am honoured to announce that the amazingly talented Kirsty Almeida will be performing too!
We shall be having various bands performing over the weekend on the stage and tea and cakes served on vintage china all in the beautiful art deco surroundings of the Pavilion theatre at the Winter Gardens situated in the middle of Blackpool town centre 23rd June 10am – 5pm and 24th June 2012 10pm – 4pm Free entry.

Event title: Summer Craft Festival in Saddleworth

Where: Uppermill Civic Hall
Information: The ‘Summer Craft Festival’ will be again held at the Uppermill Civic Hall and as usual will be more than just your average craft market. Along with the traditional and modern crafts and handmade food stalls, there will also be plenty to entertain the children, with face-painting, free balloons and a ‘Daisy Chain Competition’. Not to mention the return of Neela with the brilliant ‘Creation Station’ who provides an area for arts and crafts for kids of all ages.
The vintage teashop area will again be open for business serving food and drinks and will be joined by a hog roast and a chocolate fountain. A series of craft demonstrations will be provided on several of the stalls throughout the day so that you can see how people create some of the wonderful items which are for sale.

Information: Vibrant Vintage are proud to announce that they are organising a vintage and retro craft fair in the impressive Haigh Hall. The fair will utilise the upstairs and down stairs rooms for the fair. There will be a range of stalls selling vintage and retro clothing, accessories, homewear, china as well has handmade jewellery, gifts and local artisits as well as a vintage sweet shop, cupcake stall and chocolate stall.
Throughout the day there will be live entertainment, with vintage cars and scooters parked outside the hall. Finally, there is a bar located off the ground floor ball room selling hot and cold food as well as vintage themed cocktails and a small admission fee of £1.

Information: This event is being held to raise money for UNICEF and Shoebiz. A donation from each ticket sold will go to UNICEF. The ticket fee includes entry to the event including The Catwalk Show and Afternoon tea.
