Salford University Graphic Design Graduate Jake O’Connor
Today we share the graphic design work of Salford University graduate Jake O’Connor, who loved the north west so much he has moved over to Bolton. I particularly love his football project, which we were lucky enough to see at the Secret Salford Show last month.

I am a 22 year old who was born and bread in the big city of Birmingham. A city I love, but I feel I need to experience other great cities. University was the perfect opportunity for me, so I took the chance. I have just graduated from the University of Salford on a Bachelor of Arts Graphic Design course and spent three wonderful years in Manchester and loved every minute of it. I have enjoyed it so much I have decided to move up here, well just outside in Bolton. University for me has definitely been the biggest highlight in my life so far. Manchester is a wonderful city with a brilliant design history. To have the opportunity to live not to far from here, can only benefit me, in terms of various options in different fields of design.
‘Within my portfolio I have tried to show a range of different work, which I feel showcase my best skills, from packaging to illustration to branding. If all goes smoothly these are the preferred directions I would like to sway towards, as my design career flourishes. But as we all know, nothing is that easy. Starting out as young creative, such as myself, is going to be tough. I plan to grasp all opportunities I can get my hands on, showing a wide variety of people what I have to offer.’
I wouldn’t say I have any real specific influence, but blog sights such as tumblr have really helped me out over the past. Influence is all around us; things you wouldn’t expect spark the simplest of ideas. It’s how you develop these ideas creating concepts, which will wow people, is most important for me.
I am currently looking to get as many placements under my belt as possible. The more experience I obtain will only benefit me in the future. If your looking to take on a young eager creative, please feel free to contact me as I am open to chat all the time.
