Emporio Armani Presents ‘Icons from Woodstock’ by Elliott Landy
Here we share with you some news of an exciting event coming soon to Spinningfields, Manchester. Emporio Armani, in collaboration with Magnum Photos, will exhibit an exclusive selection of portraits by American photographer and artist, Elliott Landy.
The exhibition titled ‘Icons from Woodstock’ will be showcased at the Emporio Armani Manchester store from Friday 4th – Monday 7th May.
From 1967 to 1969, Elliott Landy photographed rising stars that would become icons of Rock and Roll. Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Frank Zappa, Joan Baez, Eric Clapton, Van Morrison and more were captured by Landy in various settings. In 1969 he was the official photographer for the Woodstock Festival.
Landy created these portraits using a special procedure invented by the CIA; filmed in infrared, are characterised by a strong contrast of bright saturated colours, causing unexpected images to appear as if suspended.
Landy’s photographs were published worldwide; on record covers such as Bob Dylan’s ‘Nashville Skyline’, as well as several magazine covers, such as Rolling Stone and Life. His exhibition pays homage to an era that marked a great moment in the history of popular music and American culture.
