Inspiration from Freelance Illustrator & Designer Alan Dalby
Alan is a freelance illustrator from Manchester and a greatly inspirational one too. We first found his work and grew jealous of his talents from his creative illustrations in his extensive portfolio. Alan, originally from Yorkshire, moved to study in the North West back in 2007 and hasn’t looked back since!
“Illustration has given me the opportunity to work with/for a number of individuals and groups in the local area. Collaborations with graphic designer team, Textbook studio, have been some of my favourite projects to date, which include designing and screen-printing the poster for the fundraiser organised by Papergirl Manchester: “Help japan – Art Sale” as well as creating the identity for the brilliant Preston based Deli “Doof”.
“I enjoy being part of a city with such a brilliant creative community and history.”
My work has developed out of a fascination with the animal kingdom and a keen interest in the graphic design and Illustration worlds. A large part of my process is about reduction. Taking back elements till they are constructed of simple clean shapes but this is often fused with a love of the hand-drawn, and of mark-making.
The process of screen-printing has also developed the style of my work, and although I still use this process when I can, I find my experience with the process has influenced all my work, particularly when it comes to colour.
I’m hoping that 2012 will see me working on a number of new projects and different challenges and I’m excited to see where it takes me.”
